Written Estimate Requirement — Utah

Under Utah consumer protection statutes, auto body shops must provide a written estimate before beginning non-warranty repair work. The shop must also obtain your authorization before starting repairs and before performing any work beyond the scope of the original estimate.

Do not authorize repairs without a written estimate in hand. Do not sign a blank authorization form. Get all supplements approved in writing before additional work begins.

Keep copies of all paperwork throughout the claim process: the initial estimate, any supplements, the final invoice, and all correspondence with both the shop and your insurance company.
